Dear Aish Family,
This week has been nonstop at Aish HaTorah in Jerusalem. May and June are our busiest months due to the thousands of University students that come to Israel during this time. This coupled with many adult learning mission leaves the Aish HaTorah Dan Family World Center bursting at the seams. This Friday night we are hosting seven different groups for Shabbos dinner!
I feel blessed that I get to welcome so many groups to Aish. Just today I spoke to our women’s mission from Aish Mexico. I explained the Aish philosophy and how it plays out in the World Center. I pointed out that the Chihuly sculpture of fire and water in the lobby represents Rabbi Akiva’s decision to study Torah even though he had no Judaic background at age 40.
Our philosophy at Aish is that every Jew should have the right to study their heritage regardless of their background. Therefore we have a designated classroom in our lobby where our essential basic classes in Judaism are held. Any Jew can attend one of these classes all day.
A few hours after I spoke to the Aish Mexico group, one of the women stopped me in the lobby. She said that she has been a member of Aish HaTorah in Mexico for years. Coming to Israel and seeing Aish in action in Jerusalem has made her proud to be a part of the Aish family and she would work hard on behalf of Aish Hatorah for the rest of her life.
So many times we take being a part of the Aish family for granted. Aish is a movement of people who care about every single Jew in the world. We recognize that Torah is a birthright and we must enable every Jew to pursue it. May the Almighty strengthen the Aish family so that we may take care of our brothers and sisters always.
Warm regards and good shabbos!
