Dear Aish Family,
Generally, my communications are upbeat and passionate. This past week was extremely tough for the entire Aish Family. We suddenly and tragically lost one of our students who was learning at Yeshiva Aish HaTorah. Ethan Jacobson OB”M was a wonderful young man from Los Angeles who had been studying with us for the past few months.
The day that Ethan passed away the director of the Yeshiva, Rabbi Rosman spoke to him about his learning. Rabbi Rosman asked him if he was learning shtark (well). Ethan replied that he was learning strong. It was a terrible shock to us all when he passed away a few hours later.
Later that night the students gathered in the main lobby of the Aish HaTorah Dan Family World Center. We had mental health professionals available to speak to the students and staff. What was beautiful to witness was how the students and staff were there for each other. I know I always address these emails to the “Aish Family” and folks may take it with a grain of salt. That night the Yeshiva was 100% family, a “band of brothers”.
Our hearts are still broken and we miss our friend Ethan Jacobson. The only consolation has been being part of the Aish Family. May the Almighty comfort Ethan’s family and friends. May we all stay close to each other and strong in the face of tragedy and adversity.
Warm regards and good shabbos.
