Dear Aish Family,
During the period when I was doing my due diligence on Aish HaTorah, I spent a tremendous amount of time trying to understand the philosophy of our founder and Rosh HaYeshiva Rav Noach Weinberg. One trait of Rav Noach kept coming up over and over again. It was his incredible ability to help nurture and start organizations outside of Aish HaTorah. So many professionals all over the Jewish world got their start in Aish HaTorah.
If Aish HaTorah is to be a true movement we must be “bigger than Aish”. We must be a convener and uniter of Jewish leaders. Aish must set the stage for mutual respect between Jewish institutions. Petty politics must be tossed to the side so we can strengthen the Jewish people.
It is in this spirit that I would like to wish congratulations to Aish COO of North America, Rabbi Hershel Lutch on his appointment as the National Executive Director of Meor. Meor is a terrific organization with over fifty educators on twenty-one college campuses engaging over 3,000 students annually. I will state publicly what I told him privately. We could not be prouder of his taking on this responsibility and we stand ready to assist Rabbi Lutch and Meor in any way possible.
We are currently enrolling students for our newly enhanced Rabbinical training program. The message that will be transmitted loud and clear to these students is that their job upon graduation is to service the Jewish people in whatever way they feel they can be most productive. We will celebrate their accomplishments whether they are with Aish or a similar venue.
I truly believe with all my heart that the greatest present that we can give the Almighty is unity amongst his children. I give you my word that the men and women of Aish will work hard every day to bring Jews together in service of the Almighty.
Rabbi Burg visited Aish Greater Washington this week and spent time with Executive Director Rabbi Buxbaum. Rabbi Burg stated, “It is clear that Rabbi and Rebetzin Buxbaum are two of the most talented professionals Aish has in North America. Their classes are inspiring and they are a great example of how Aish leadership can propel a Jewish community.”
Rabbi Burg discussed the Aish Synagogue and learning center plans with Rabbi Buxbaum for a major capital expansion to accommodate the large classes that they host.
Rabbi Burg stopped at the Yeshiva Ner Israel to visit their NCSY summer learning program. He spent time discussing the program with Director, Rabbi Jon Green.
