Dear Aish Family,

Rabbi-Steven-BurgAs many of you know, I address my emails to the “Aish Family”. In the past 10 months, I have felt that Aish is much more than the most important organization in the Jewish world. I have felt that wherever I travel, I have been embraced by the Aish family. Never has this concept been more apparent than this past week.

Aish hosted a J-Inspire mission of two dozen men from America. Everyone who attended this mission had been to Aish before on other missions. The goal this time was not only to have fun but, to study relevant Jewish wisdom with Aish.

IMG-20160522-WA0007In my twenty five years of Jewish communal work, I have never witnessed a more inspired and passionate group. It did not matter how limited their Judaic background was. Everyone rolled up their sleeves to grow together as Jews.

The energy around the Dan Family Aish World Center and the Yeshiva was palpable. The closing banquet was a testament to the brotherhood that was created on the trip. Every member of the group got up to talk about what part of Judaism they were going to strengthen when they got home.

J InspireI truly believe that Aish HaTorah is the premier Jewish institution in the world in terms of opening up sacred Jewish knowledge to every Jew. Our educators are world class and our curriculum is filled with pearls of wisdom. Our core belief at Aish HaTorah is that EVERY Jew must have access to their heritage of Torah.

In that spirit, I have instructed our staff to organize more substantive content driven missions. I have also asked my friend and colleague Rabbi Eric Coopersmith to work on Torah curriculum that can be taught around the world. This curriculum will help educators teach our Jewish brothers and sisters around the world about the importance of the Almighty in their lives. This is an exciting time to be a part of the Aish community.

I would like to thank the Aish HaTorah Project Inspire staffers that traveled and coordinated the mission from the US. Rabbi Sampson, Rabbi Barnett, Rabbi Giniger and Yossi Friedman did an outstanding job. I would like to especially thank Aish Board of Governors member Stuart Hytman for accompanying the mission. Most importantly, I would like to thank the mission participants, my new brothers, for their commitment and dedication to Aish and most importantly the Almighty.

Good Shabbos!
